du, add life to life

dudu, the UAE's new national telecommunications provider, kicked-off their advertising campaign with water as du vision of telecommunications, with ads in news papers, TV's, and radio stations, and also around the emirates high-ways, malls, and streets.

I was driving in Al Khaleej Al Arabi Road today and somehow I missed my Dubai exit and I had to continue driving to the end of the road (the old Abu Dhabi - Dubai road), and I saw huge du ad hanging in one of the bridges, I was surprised to see the ad this far away from the city :-) it painted a big smile in my face and other drivers in the road as everybody slowed down to look at the ad, which shows du commitment to provide coverage to people who need it the most specially far away from the city.

du will also be the first service provider to launch 20 popular TV channels over its EDGE and 3G network, and plan a huge participation at GITEX 2006 and Gulfcomm, and invite everybody to experience the innovative next generation services at du stand Z-G10, Zabeel Hall, November 18-22 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

And of course du new TV ad, you can watch it here. And don't forget to visit du new website.

Palm Responds to Unwarranted Lawsuit Over Dubious Patents

PalmPalm, Inc. today issued the following statement in response to a patent-infringement lawsuit filed against it by patent-holding company NTP Inc.

The NTP lawsuit claims that certain Palm products infringe seven NTP patents. All seven of the patents asserted are being re-examined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and have been rejected by the re-examiners as invalid. Palm also noted that the NTP patents disclose a pager-based email service that has nothing in common with the mobile-computing devices invented by Palm.

Palm has been in occasional contact with NTP concerning a license to these patents. When Palm last communicated with NTP many months ago, however, each of the patents already was the subject of re-examination proceedings by the PTO. Palm is disappointed that, after many months of silence and repeated rejections of NTP's claims by the PTO, NTP has chosen to sue on patents of doubtful validity.

Palm respects legitimate intellectual property rights, but will defend itself vigorously against the attempted misuse of the patent and judicial systems to extract monetary value for rights to patents that may ultimately have no value at all.
